Cue the sneezing, coughing, and aching muscles -- it's flu season.
Influenza experts expect flu cases to peak over the holidays as people gather in large groups to celebrate.
The dominant strain so far is H-3-N-2, which has been linked to increased hospitalizations and deaths among the elderly and people with underlying health conditions.
Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji tells CKTB that this is also the group of flu strains we are also seeing in Niagara.
He says the good news is that initial signs show this years flu shot will provide coverage for those strains.
Health officials say if you have the flu -- stay home.
The first lab confirmed case of influenza in Niagara was October 24th.
