A live basketball tournament tips off in St. Catharines tomorrow.
The Canadian Elite Basketball League is hosting a round robin series of 26 games at the Meridian Centre, ending with a championship game on August 9th.
Players have arrived from across Canada and the US and were subjected to a series of COVID-19 screenings.
CEBL CEO and Commissioner Mike Morreale says five cases were flagged by Niagara Health.
"The protocols worked, they identified, they separated, they isolated, they found out more, and they were cleared. And I think that was really a moment for us when we're like, okay, this can work. We're in a great position. We're in a COVID free zone."
Players are staying in three 'safe zones' to ensure their health and the safety of the entire community.
Fans will not be able to watch the action in person, but livestreams will be available online.
The Niagara River Lions will kick things off at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, taking on the Hamilton Honey Badgers.
