A 50 year old Welland man has been arrested following a bomb threat at the GE construction site earlier this week.
Shortly after 9am Tuesday an employee at the General Electric construction site on Silverthorn Street in Welland allegedly entered his office to find a note on his desk warning the job site had been mined with explosive devices.
Police say the note indicated that several devices had been planted on site and were to explode at prescribed times with the intent to cause harm to as many people as possible.
The work site was evacuated and all personnel were removed to areas of safety.
The Niagara Regional Police Service, Welland Fire, and Niagara EMS all responded to the scene.
A man was taken into custody.
50 year old Christopher Reece was arrested and later charged with the offences of Break and Enter with Intent, Utter Threats of Death, and Mischief to Property.
In accordance with GE Job site and Niagara Regional Police protocols, the job site was examined for evidence of explosive devices after the deadlines for the explosions had passed.
No devices were located and constructions crews were able to return to work by 2:00 PM.
Investigation into the motivation behind this incident is continuing.
