A man has been charged with impaired driving following a crash in St.Catharines on Friday night that shut down a busy intersection.

A man has been charged with impaired driving following a crash in St.Catharines on Friday night that shut down a busy intersection.

Police, Fire, and EMS arrived at the scene of the crash at Ontario Street and Welland Avenue at around 6pm.

Police say a 2003 Honda CRV was on Ontario Street approaching Welland Avenue on a red light when it veered to the right sideswiping 2 vehicles.

The Honda continued into the intersection t-boning a minivan that was travelling eastbound through the intersection.

When the Honda eventually came to a stop, it then reversed into a vehicle stopped on Fourth Avenue waiting to turn northbound onto Ontario Street. 

In total 14 persons and 5 vehicles were involved in the collision. 

Seven were teenagers in the minivan. 

Multiple minor injuries were reported and some were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
 
53 year old Joseph Berce of St. Catharines has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
