A 74 year old man has been charged in the death of a 94 year old woman who was being cared for at a long term care facility.
Police say the assault took place at a care facility in Niagara-on-the-Lake on August 9th.
Officers were called a day after the alleged assault, and 94 year old Verna Traina died in hospital from her injuries on August 20th.
A subsequent investigation by members of the Criminal Investigations Branch and Homicide Unit, in consultation with the Crown Attorney, determined that charges would be laid against a male resident of the home involved in the altercation.
Today, 74 year old Robert Stroeh was charged with manslaughter.
Stroeh was transported to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines and was released on bail with a return court date of November 26th, 2019 at 9:00AM.
