A man convicted of attempting to kill two people in Smithville just days before Christmas has been arrested again and charged with First Degree Murder.
Peel Regional Police laying the latest charge against 47 year old Alexander Bates on Monday.
The First Degree Murder charge stems from the death of 83 year old Mary Araujo, who was found deceased with obvious signs of trauma in Mississauga.
Her body was found hours before the Smithville incident.
Cops cordoned off a portion of Anastasia Boulevard in Smithville on December 21st after getting a 911 call about a pair of people tied up in a basement of a nearby home.
While responding to the scene NRP officers approached Bates, who pulled a starter pistol. He was then shot multiple times by police.
An SIU investigation confirms the responding officers had every reason to believe their lives were in immediate danger during the interaction with Bates.
He is serving 13 years behind bars for the Smithville incident.
