Quick action by a Fort Erie resident saved a man from drowning in the Niagara River over the weekend
Randy Mathewson saw a man in distress Friday afternoon near the old coal docks at the foot of Jarvis Street, just past the International Railroad Bridge.
He started running down the shore line as the river carried the man in its current.
He managed to pull the man to shore.
Niagara Regional Police and an EMS ambulance arrived shortly after and took the man away.
