Mansion House is being slapped with a $5,000 fine after overcrowding the patio.
The operator of the Mansion House Hotel in St. Catharines pleaded guilty to two counts of having more people on the outdoor patio than what is allowed by the Ontario Fire Code. The first violation happened on August 4th, and the second happened on August 10th.
The court gave a suspended sentence for August 4th and a $5,000 fine plus court costs and victim surcharge for August 10th.
In a release Acting Fire Chief Jeff McCormick says City Staff have been working with several groups including Fire and Niagara Regional Police to impress the importance of fire and licensing laws.
“The Ontario Fire Code outlines occupancy limits to help protect building occupants. Having more people than the floor space can accommodate makes evacuation in the event of an emergency extremely difficult and may result in injury or death to occupants."
