The Mayor of Fort Erie is commenting on the tent fiasco.
Wayne Redekop tells CKTB there are reasons why tents aren't allowed on Crystal Beach and safety is one of them.
A Niagara-on-the-Lake mom was kicked off the beach this week by NRP officers after pitching a small tent for her son.
Courtney Jackson says she brought the sun shelter for her son on the Civic Monday and was told by a man there were no tents allowed, and then she says police showed up and told her to leave.
Redekop says besides taking up space and impeding sight lines, it's a safety issue since lines and pegs in the sand can trip beach goers.
The Mayor also says he received a message from a resident who says the mother was 'out of sorts' and if her children were upset it was because of her actions, not the NRP's.
He says tents are banned but umbrellas are allowed.
