The Mayor of St Catharines says efforts are underway to save a $1 million donation from the owners of the Niagara Icedogs to the Meridian Centre.
Walter Sendzik says he will meet with BIll and Denise Burke this week to convince them to move forward with the plan.
The Burke's announcing last week they were pulling the donation after two years trying to get the city to make good on a promise to name a street in front of the centre, Icedogs Way in perpetuity as part of the donation.
The Burke's explaining when they went to sign the contract, the word perpetuity had been changed to 20 years.
Meantime, the mayor says it's a Human Resources matter and would not comment on whether a decision by the city to part ways with its solicitor last week, had anything to do with the failed deal.
