The mayor of Niagara Falls responding to questions surrounding the purchase of 20 more acres of land at the site of the proposed South Niagara hospital.
Council met behind closed doors last night to discuss the plan.
Mayor Jim Diodati tells CKTB it was the Niagara Health System that told the city they needed more land to build the hospital.
In March of 2013, the city announced the Grassl family had agreed to donate 30 acres of land at the corner of Montrose and Biggar Roads for the hospital.
Diodati says the Ministry has been up-front in saying they are responsible for building the hospital but require the city to buy any land that is needed.
He adds the city doesn't want there to be any reason not to build a new south Niagara hospital.
Diodati says they still, at this point, don't know the pricetag attached to the additional land purchase.
