A large Canadian study is challenging the present-day wisdom about how much fat, carbohydrates and servings of fruit and vegetables make for a healthy diet to prevent premature death.
Researchers at McMaster University in Hamilton found eating a high-carbohydrate diet is associated with an increased risk of dying early, and that dietary fats are associated with lower mortality.
A second McMaster study found eating three to four servings of fruit, vegetables and legumes per day had a similar benefit in reducing the risk of premature death as eating the currently recommended five-plus servings.
