The owner of a medical centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake is asking for a level playing field in the competition to become the community health care hub.
Niagara-On-the-Lake Medical Centre owner Anthony Annunziata appeared at council to question the proposed development of a new medical centre along Niagara Stone Road in a residential area.
Annunziata says he has spent $150,000 on a new site plan application for his building including a X-Ray lab, vision care, and specialty care. He said he would like to move forward, but those plans are now in jeopardy.
"The doctors [at Niagara-On-The-Lake Medical Centre] have given notice that they are leaving the facility to move to a facility that doesn't exist, on a piece of property that isn't zoned for that use, that is contained in a plan that makes it illegal for that use."
Annunziata's concerns stem from a report from two groups of doctors currently working out of his building stating the proposed new medical centre would open in fall of 2019.
He asked council to affirm the proposal is not a done deal and encouraged public consultation regarding the potential impacts building the new medical facility next to the Crossroads Elementary School could have.
Lord Mayor Pat Darte said due process will be followed.
