A meeting will be held this week looking at the opioid crisis in Niagara.
The Niagara District Council of Women will be hosting a Public Forum Panel, “The Opioid Crisis in Niagara: What is Being Done?” on Wednesday, February 13 at 8:00 pm in the Mills Room at the St. Catharines Central Library (54 Church Street).
President Gracia Janes says while we are lucky in St.Catharines to have an overdose prevention site, but more needs to be done to combat the problem.
She says people in Niagara need to know about the services offered to people using drugs, including the site on Queenston Street and the Street Works program.
She is encouraging all residents to attend the meeting who are interested in knowing more about drug use in Niagara and the programs being offered to help addicts.
As of November 2018 there have been 465 overdose incidents which Niagara EMS has responded to.
43 percent of the calls took place in St.Catharines.
