A regional motion targeting the town of Pelham's debt level, will now be expanded to include all of Niagara's 12 municipalities.
The region's Audit Committee voting yesterday to amend a motion, asking Pelham to put taxpayer affordability guidelines into place, to include all area municiaplities.
The committee was expected to deal with the original motion, that called on the Town of Pelham to provide its audited financial statements from 2015 to 2017 and to adopt the guideline to make sure its operating levy remains below 25 percent.
While committee members deferred dealing with the motion until September, they agreed to expand its scope.
Audit committee chairman Tony Quirk is quoted by local media as saying while the original motion was based on concerns about Pelham's mounting debt, there are concerns about taxes across the region and where they are going.
