The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has approved the application for a temporary supervised injection site in the Garden City.
Executive Director of Positive Living Niagara Glen Walker told the St. Catharines Standard the site will be housed at Positive Living's location on Queenston Street.
During CKTB's Road to Recovery, Walker explained these sites can keep people alive until they are ready to seek treatment.
"If they do overdose there are well trained people to administer naloxone, to call 911. As well, as we develop a rapport with these people to talk about engagement and service and is it time to move forward in trying to treat your addiction."
The sites do not provide illicit drugs.
It is a ministry funded program. There are hopes for an eventual permanent site.
