The Ministry of Municipal Affairs has shut down the Niagara Region's request to examine the Town of Pelham's finances.
In February, following a three hour debate which included a presentation by members of the advocacy group Pelham DEBT, council voted 15-12 in favour of a motion presented by Pelham's Regional representative Brian Baty asking for the province to investigate.
In an April letter, sent to both the Region and Town of Pelham, Municipal Affairs Minister Dave Mauro confirms the ministry will not undertake any investigation and encourages both sides to work together to address issues locally.
Here is the letter.
