A family outing at a restaurant turned tragic in east-end Toronto last evening when a mother and a child she was carrying across a street struck by a car and died of their injuries in hospital.
Police say one of the two was thrown into traffic and struck by a second car near Warden Avenue and Continental Place.
Sergeant Carm Zambri says the family was crossing the street after dinner at mid-block and that the father had safely crossed the street while carrying the couple's second child.
Zambri says the first driver remained at the scene, but the second driver fled and police are looking for a black car, possibly a Honda Civic, which could be missing part of the plastic moulding on the right front side.
