Demolition of the Forks Road Bridge will start Monday at a total cost of $1.14 million.
Chris Anders, the manager of engineering services for Welland, says the contractor spent last week getting the bridge ready to lift.
He says the plan now is to put a barge under the bridge and use the buoyancy of the barge to lift the centre span off its supports.
It will eventually be floated down the canal to a metal recycler in Port Colborne.
The bridge was closed in late 2018 due to the structure deteriorating quicker than anticipated even after repairs in 2016.
A fall report said the structure could collapse any time within 18 months.
