More money for MRI services in Niagara has been announced for a second straight year.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates championed the cause to get more money for MRI services in Niagara back in 2016 after highlighting horrendous wait times in Niagara.
All three parties supported his private member's motion last year to increase Niagara's funding to allow for a minimum of 2000 hours of operting time for MRI machines.
Gates and Suzanne Johnston, President of the Niagara Health System, confirmed today the that the additional funding for MRI services has been maintained for a another year.
“Our motion called on the government to take action—to address the horrendous wait times for MRIs in Niagara and we’re happy that last year we saw increased funding,” said Gates. “Now this year, it is great to see additional funding from the LHIN so that MRI wait times can remain closer to the provincial average.”
The government alloted Niagara Health with $1,649,800 in base funding for the 2016-17 year.
“I don’t think any resident in Niagara should have to experience these wait times and that’s why I’m so pleased to see additional funding to ensure we can deliver quality healthcare to people in our community,” said Gates.
