Three scams are targeting Alectra customers:
The first involves a threatening phone call to the user. The scammer poses as a technician for the utility and demands payment while threatening to remove the home's Smart Meter and install an analog meter.
The caller goes on to say the home's power could be disconnected for several hours unless a credit card payment is made at random kiosks at grocery stores.
The second scam features a fraudulent text message offering a refund via e-transfer.
And the third con is a little more low tech - a letter is mailed to customers advising of outstanding amounts owed for a Smart Meter deposit. This method primarily targets businesses.
Officials for the utility confirm theses are all scams.
