The Niagara Falls Fire Department is part of a push to improve home safety and make sure no one else dies of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Over 250 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have been donated to the department by Enbridge Gas as part of Project Zero.
This year, Enbridge is investing $275,000 in the campaign.
Over the last 11 years, more than 44,350 alarms have been donated to fire departments in Ontario through Project Zero.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Ben Trendle says the department has teamed up with Project Share to distribute the alarms.
"Last year we actually donated some alarms to them and it went so well that we are giving them the 252 alarms to distribute as part of their Christmas basket program."
Carbon monoxide alarms are required in all Ontario homes with a source of carbon monoxide.
