The CEO of Toronto's Daily Bread food bank says he's frightened food bank use around the country is at record high when the unemployment rate in Canada is near record lows.
Neil Hetherington calls that ``upside down'' compared with what food banks are used to.
He believes that if so many people are relying on food banks, it's a sign that an economic downturn could change things for the worse very quickly.
Food banks across Canada are reporting record levels of use this Thanksgiving -- a critical time of year for many when it comes to fundraising.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daily Bread and its member organizations saw about 65-thousand client visits per month.
Hetherington says that number last month was 275-thousand
Cynthia Boulter, C-O-O at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank says five years ago the organization was supporting between 6-thousand and 7-thousand people a month.
Now that number is as high as 17-thousand.
