The MTO is closing the Thorold Tunnel as a precaution after an excavator scratched the walls and ceiling. Opening time unknown.
The Thorold tunnel west is closed as a precautionary measure after a flatbed carrying an excavator scratched the tunnel walls and ceiling.
The incident happened around noon and the MTO is closing the tunnel to make repairs.
Astrid Poei with the MTO says they know it is not a safety issue but it is an ongoing situation and they are unsure when the tunnel will reopen.
