Hamilton police have made several arrests in relation to a child sexual assault case that involved the use of Craigslist.
Children's Aid contacted police in May, leading officers to two related victims aged 7 and 16. Police allege the younger girl was being assaulted by her mom's boyfriend, while the teen was allegedly assaulted by more than one person.
"And she was also being made available to be sexually assaulted by others through Craigslist," police told reporters Thursday.
The 34-year-old Hamilton man is facing 40 sexual abuse-related charges. The child's mother has been charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.
At a news conference this morning Hamilton Police Chief Eric Girt called it "a shocking event."
The six-month investigation also involved OPP, Niagara Regional Police, Chatham-Kent Police and U.S. authorities.
