A retired police officer is running for the NDP party in the provincial by-election in Niagara West-Glanbrook.
Mike Thomas who lives in Binbrook, was inspired to run for politics after serving as President of the Hamilton Police Association.
He says lobbying for change and working with the provincial and federal governments inspired him to run for the NDP party.
Thomas currently works as a security specialist at Hydro One.
Thomas joined CKTB's Lee Sterry saying he is well aware of the issues both the Liberals are facing province-wide and the P-C party is facing internally in Niagara.
He says most residents in the riding are very concerned about hydro rates and stopping the sale of Hydro One.
Thomas says residents are also very worried about long-term care and how we are treating our elderly residents medically and emotionally.
He is pushing for funding to be restored to hospital budgets, especially funds for West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby.
19 year old Sam Oosterhoff is running for the PC party, for the Liberal party Vicky Ringuette and the Green party will be represented by Donna Cridland.
The by-election will be held November 17th.
CKTB will host a candidate debate in-studio November 10th from 12-1pm with host Tom McConnell.
