A New Democrat MP says he is being expelled from the party's caucus because of his comments about a harassment complaint against him.
MP Erin Weir says NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh notified him late yesterday that he was being expelled not because of the complaint, but because he spoke publicly about the third party investigation into the allegation against him. Weir had said the accusation was not only unfounded, but a politically motivated attempt to punish him.
The investigation began in February after second hand allegations of 'harassing behaviour towards women.'
In a statement today, Singh says he had considered various resolutions including conciliation, but he says 'recent developments' show a rehabilitative approach is untenable.
The statement goes on to say the investigation 'found one claim of harassment and three claims of sexual harassment were sustained by the evidence.'
