Months after the Bowmanville Zoo closed amid criticism of its treatment of animals, a group is raising concerns about a new business at the same property that's offering ``encounters'' with lion cubs.
The Clarington Family Outdoor Adventure Park's website says visitors have the option of booking an encounter with the lion cubs.
But the group Animal Justice says the zoo is selling photo ops with the baby lions.
Karen Cullen, who is a veterinarian at the park, responds to the criticism by saying the cubs' interaction with visitors will help them become socialized to people.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says it's aware of the new facility opening and will continue to hold regular inspections, as it would with any zoo open to the public.
