St. Catharines council has given the green light to a new arena strategy.
In a release, the city says the strategy was developed through community feedback, combined with a study of the arenas and their usage, as well as a review of comparable municipalities and industry standards.
Recommendations include decommissioning the Garden City Complex for ice pad usage should a new arena be built for the 2021 Canada Summer Games.
If that doesn't happen there is the possibility of building one new ice pad to be located north of the QEW.
All toll the study has revealed the city needs to spend close to $16 million over the next 15 years at city owned arena's.
