St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Niagara Health have named Dr. Maxine Lewis to the new position of Joint Chief of Mental Health and Addictions starting Jan. 1.
Dr. Lewis will lead one of the largest Mental Health and Addictions programs in Canada, serving a population of 1.2 million people from Niagara through Hamilton.
Dr. Tom Stewart, the CEO of SJHH and Niagara Health says one leadership role for the large geographic area creates opportunities to develop new models of care and improved access for patients suffering from mental illness and addictions,
He says it will also help to shape mental health care policies throughout the province.
Dr. Lewis is currently Interim Chief of Psychiatry at SJHH. She has been a staff psychiatrist at SJHH since 2004, with clinical expertise in geriatric psychiatry, working with the Niagara Seniors Mental Health Outreach Team and the Seniors Mental Health Clinic in Hamilton.
She has held many leadership roles at SJHH, including Head of Service of Seniors Mental Health and Head of Service of the Mood Disorders, Anxiety and Youth Wellness Service.
