Parts of a new airline passengers bill of rights go into effect today across the country.
The new protections mean anyone bumped from a flight could receive up to $2,400 in compensation.
If your plane is stuck on the tarmac, you will be allowed to the leave the craft if delays exceed three hours.
Other new protections will be phased in in December.
However smaller airlines, like Swoop, will get a break and will have to pay less in compensation for delays or cancellelations, that are within the airlines control, but are not safety related.
But the new rules won't help any of the passengers on 30 cancelled Swoop flights over a 10 day period earlier this month.
Several airlines have already served notice they plan to challenge the new protections in court.
