Police reminding usnew provincial regulations go into effect January 1st regarding street checks.
Police can not stop people based on race, because a person happens to be in a high crime area or if someone walks away, refusing to answer a question
If you are stopped and asked for I-D, police must tell you why, as well as tell you, you can refuse to give identifying information.
They must also offer you a reciept including their name and badge number.
The new rules do not apply if police ask for identifying information or to see an identifying document while doing a traffic stop, arresting or detaining someone, executing a warrant
or investigating a specific crime.
