St. Catharines council is setting new standards for facility accessibility design standards across the city.
Last week council passed a motion updating building standards to include accessibility for children or their caregivers using mobility devices.
Some of the difficulties with existing playgrounds and parks are they are often inaccessible to wheelchairs and other mobility devices due to their surroundings.
Councillor Mat Siscoe says that the standards will be in place for both new parks and existing playgrounds in the city.
One of the main focuses will be on improving the play surfaces at the parks as well as making the facilities accessible to all.
St. Catharines currently has five accessible parks, including Lakeside and West Park.
