A new trial has been ordered for a former Niagara Falls artist convicted in a St. Catharines arson.
The Hamilton Spectator reporting the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled crown prosecutors and the judge failed in their duties and have ordered a new trial for Jeannette Tossounian.
The appeal court saying the crown and judge failed to properly sharing evidence with her after she chose to represent herself in the trial.
According to court documents, Tossounian was arrested back in in February 2012 after witnesses said they saw her walking away from a fire at a St. Catharines building, where she ran an unsuccessful art gallery, with a gas can in hand.
She was found guilty of arson later that year in the fire that destroyed her Welland Avenue art gallery.
