The wastewater treatment plant in Niagara Falls, New York that was to blame for the black water incident in the lower Niagara River is getting a $27 million dollar upgrade.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announcing today the Niagara Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant is getting $13.5 million in state funds, plus an equal amount from the Niagara Falls Water Board, to make improvements at the aging facility.
Photos of discoloured river water drew national attention on both sides of the border.
The Niagara Falls Water Board was fined $50,000 by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for the July 2017 incident.
