A 33 year old man from New York has been arrested after officers say he illegally crossed into Canada, attempted to evade arrest, damaged police cruisers, and bit a nurse.
Canada Border Service Agency officials alerted Niagara Regional Police to the driver just after 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Further information from the Niagara Falls Police Department in New York revealed American officers had tried to stop an erratic driver in a Ford Explorer with a Florida licence plate, but were unsuccessful.
NRP officers were able to locate the vehicle in the Second Ave and Kitchener Street area.
The driver crashed into a marked police cruiser while trying to evade police.
During the arrest, the man assaulted officers resulting in the police use of a taser.
One officer received minor injuries.
Officers also discovered suspected Oxycodone and Hydrocodone during the arrest.
As the driver was being transported to hospital for assessment, he damaged the police cruiser by kicking at the window cage.
Once he arrived at the hospital, officials say he bit a nurse.
Harpreet Singh of North Tonawanda has been charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired by drugs, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police officer, assaulting a peace officer with intent to resist arrest, mischief under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, and assault.
