Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey is heading to Washington next week.
The MP, who is also Vice Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, will be in Washington, D.C., as part of a delegation that is meeting with US government officials to discuss mutual interests, including NAFTA and the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence economic region.
The group which will also include Senators, will be meeting with US Members of Congress and Senators, during their three-day trip.
The trip takes on added importance given the recent negotiations with NAFTA.
āIām very much looking forward to, once again, sitting down with my American counterparts to discuss the importance of our Canada-US relationship. Of particular interest will be conversations regarding strengthening our collective, bi-national assets, such as the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence economic region, enhancing our collective, international trade performance. Together, we are an economic and environmental powerhouse. Bordering eight US states, the Great Lakes economic region is rife with opportunity for strong, sustainable, growth. By working productively with our US neighbours, Niagara, with its Foreign Trade Zone designation, Gateway Economic Centre & Zone and its location in the heart of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system, is strategically placed to be a prime beneficiary from this relationship.ā Vance Badawey
