Niagara College students are embarking on a new journey as the college officially opens the new Teaching Distillery in Niagara-On-The-Lake.
Students will use the 2,500 square foot space to craft spirits that will be sold on campus alongside Niagara College's wines, beers, and ciders.
The distillery includes five stills, four mash tuns, and ten fermenters allowing for the production of many products including vodka, gin, whisky, brandy, and rum.
The first group of 16 students are now learning about production, testing and analysis, and packaging and merchandising.
"We’ve already learned a lot in the program so far – the faculty and our distiller David Dickson have been excellent," says Artisan Distilling student Kirin Tsang via a release. "And we’re not only learning how to make spirits; we’re also learning about each other. Everyone in the class brings with them a diverse set of skills and life experiences, and we’re looking forward to experimenting and succeeding together in this exciting industry."
