A Niagara Regional Police officer, who went out of her way to help a homeless woman, is getting a viral pat on the back.

District 1 of the NRP, which covers St. Catharines and Thorold, tweeted out an online exchange they had with a member of the public who was crediting a member of the force for helping a homeless woman.

The community member says she felt inspired to thank the on-duty officer, who purchased a homeless woman standing outside a thrift store on Scott Street, warm winter attire.

The officer apparently paid for the items out of her own pocket.

The resident says she couldn't let the incident go unnoticed and she was proud to see the humanity displayed by the officer.
