Niagara Falls City Council has passed an official code of conduct for councillors and will be hiring an integrity commissioner.
The new code of conduct addresses areas of harassment, social media and staff relations.
Punishment for breaches of the new code allows the city to impose either a reprimand or suspension of pay for up to 90 days.
Counci voting in favour of handing out punishment for breaches as opposed to having an integrity commissioner dole out punishment directly.
The move to hire an IC follows changes to the Municipal Act that require all Ontario municipalities to appoint an Integrity Commissioner.
