There could finally be some activity at the corner of Dunn and Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls where a giant concrete block as sat since 2004.
City Council voting to approve a 72-storey mixed-use building with hotel and residential units on the property.
The building would eclipse the Hilton Hotel as the tallest hotel in the Falls and at 72 stories would be one of the tallest buildings in Canada.
Councillor Chris Dabrowski called it a "landmark hotel" and a "no brainer in terms of economic impact and job vision for the city"
Meantime council turned down a proposal that called for another high rise building, but this one further down on River Road between John and Phillip Streets.
That one was for an apartment complex with 34-storey and seven-storey towers.
The proposal would have required a new special policy area designation as the application was more than twice what was permitted by current policies.
