Niagara Falls city council will be coming to the aid of residents combatting chronic rodent problems.
Council last night approving a rebate program that will provide homeowners with up to $200 to offset the cost of an exterminator to lay rat bait or traps around the outside of their homes.
Councillor Wayne Thomson also calling on the region's public health unit to do its part.
Thomson noting there was a time when regional inspectors would come in and survey not just one home with a rat problem, but the entire neighbourhood, to determine food and water sources as well as where the rats were nesting.
Thomson says just dealing with one home doesn't work, the rats just move next door.
