Niagara Falls Council is following Fort Erie's lead to combat human trafficking.
During last night's meeting, Niagara Falls Fire Chief Jim Boutilier told council news he called 'shocking.'
"I'm not sure if everybody is aware but there's about 134 cases that we know of right now in the Niagara Region. There's the shocking news to myself - there are 15 individuals that are known to be in grade 10 within the region in both district school boards that are being affected by this."
Boutilier went on to say emergency services are trying to put together a coalition to help educate people on the issue.
Niagara Falls council decided to unanimously support a recommendation mirroring a Fort Erie resolution giving $5,000 to the YWCA for a training and awareness program.
