An emotional moment at Niagara Falls City Council as two fathers asked for support to put up signs in memory of their daughters.
Robin Edwards and Bob Pieroway appeared at council last night, detailing their heartbreaking stories after they both lost a daughter to impaired drivers.
Jessica Edwards was killed in February of 2017 when her car was t-boned by a drunk driver at the intersection of Taylor and Mountain Roads
Julia Pieroway was killed in November of 2017 when she was hit by a speeding impaired driver on Biggar Road.
Robin Edwards described the pain his family endured.
"Two lives are lost and many more are destroyed in something that is preventable. The information is out there, but people will still get behind the wheel of their vehicle and drive while being impaired. People read about it in papers, but soon it is forgotten as if it were an urban legend."
Bob Pieroway thanked council for their support and attention to the issue.
"If one little good thing can come out of our daughter's lives, it is just a reminder to people that impaired driving, whether it be through drugs and/or alcohol, to maybe think twice and maybe it won't happen. Especially in our community."
Council granted unanimous support for a sign honouring Julia's life on Biggar Road.
Council will also send a letter of support to regional council as Pieroway and Edwards appear there to ask for a sign in memory of Jessica since the intersection of Taylor and Mountain Roads falls under regional jurisdiction.
MADD Canada will cover the cost of the signs.
