Niagara Fall Council has transferred 20 hectares of land to the Niagara Health System for the future South Niagara Hospital.
Back in 2013 Josefa Grassl and the city entered into a memorandum of understanding as the Grassl family planned to donate 12 hectares of land near Biggar and Montrose for a new hospital.
Those plans hit a snag when NHS officials told the city new building requirements state at least 20 hectares of land would be needed to allow for future expansion.
The city approached the family again, and bought the additional land for 11 million dollars.
There's no word on when construction could begin, but a clause in the transfer agreement says work must start by 2027 or the City can buy the land back for one dollar.
