Niagara Falls councillors want a review of the funding the region receives from the province to help the homeless.

Council last night voting in favour of a motion brought forward by Councillor Lori Lococo that states the current Ontario government funding formula does not reflect local needs.

Councillors hearing the Niagara Region with a population close to 450,000, received nearly $8 million in funding last year from the province which translates to $17.52 per capita.

Windsor with a population of nearly 400,000 received over $ 10 million or $26.83 per capita

The resolution also emphasizes, like many cities in Ontario, Niagara's homeless shelters are operating at more than 100 percent capacity.
