The city of Niagara Falls is giving residents and businesses more time to get their financials in order.
Council approved extending the due date for final tax bills by 30 days.
For residential taxes, the due dates are now July 31st and October 30th.
For commercial, industrial, and multi-residential taxes that date has been pushed back to September 30th.
Council also approved extending measures to waive tax penalties and interest for an additional two months until the end of August.
Director of Finance Tiffany Clark recommended reinstating the penalties at the end of the summer. "We do owe the region about $22 million on September 5th. It's normally due August 5th. They gave a 30 day extension on it," she explained to council. "On September 30th we also owe the school board $10 million."
The city will be also be charging a penalty of 1.25 percent per month on overdue water accounts and overdue accounts receivable starting on July 1st.
