A group of locals in Niagara Falls are trying to help out those less fortunate dealing with the sweltering temperatures.
A temporary cooling centre is being set up at the River of Life Church on Dunn Street.
Angela Peebles who runs a local diner in the Falls is one of the organizers.
Peebles says the centre, located at Unit #4 6095 Dunn Street, will be open between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and offer hydration drinks, fruit and granola bars.
Niagara Falls does not have an overnight shelter for those less fortunate but Peebles says the Out of the Heat pilot project underway in St. Catharines is a way to help those who need overnight relief.
The Out of the Heat shelter runs six days a week (excluding Tuesdays) until August 31st.
Check in is at 8 p.m. and a light snack will be provided for those staying the night. Participants will be provided with bedding and a cot and encouraged to attend the St. George Breakfast Program in the morning.
