Crossing guards, retirement homes, and a new compressor for the Gale Centre are all on the agenda for tonight's Niagara Falls Council Meeting.
A report from transportation services recommends increasing the salary of school crossing guards to $17.34 per hour to deal with a 'recruitment and retention crisis.'
Right now, officials say the program is short nine guards.
Council will also be asked to allow a zoning amendment as a developer looks at converting the old Peninsula Inn to a retirement home.
If the proposal moves forward, the existing property on Niagara Square Drive would change to contain 85 private living units for seniors.
Meanwhile, council will also be considering replacing one of the compressors at the Gale Centre.
The company responsible for refrigeration at the arena says one of the two compressors necessary to maintain the ice at all four pads is on its last legs.
A new compressor would cost more than $110,000.
