A young girl and a Niagara politician are going door-to-door to get signatures on a petition calling on the government to cover the cost of glucose monitors for children with Type One Diabetes.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says every single person who listened to seven year old Maya Webster's story took the time to add their name to the petition.
Maya was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes when she was just two year old, and has been in and out of hospital ever since.
She now uses a continuous glucose monitor to warn her when her sugar levels are too high or too low, helping her avoid hospital stays and other complications.
Although Maya's family has coverage for the device, not all families are so lucky.
Gates plans to bring Maya with him to Queen's Park when the Legislature resumes to ask the government directly to offer coverage for all children like Maya.
